Good food at cafe, lovely walk along the river, was there when a live band was playing. Very nice. Also rented a boat a few weeks later even better
Lovely place, had a canal boat ride for an hour which was really peaceful. Walked around the woods which surrounded the place. They have a lovely cafe there and live music was there today, a Saturday. Really nice and peaceful.
We rented a barge for the week (our first time), over our daughters birthday and found it to be an incredibly relaxing experience. The company (ABC boat hire) were extremely helpful and they very thoughtfully provided absolutely everything we could possibly have needed for our stay. I would definitely recommend it to others. The area was beautiful and had loads of excellent quality places to stop and eat along the canal route, locals were all very friendly and helpful. I also noticed a distinct lack of litter which was a pleasant surprise considering it would have a large number of people visiting the area.
A lovely walk along the canal, taking you through a wooded area & passed a small detached holiday cottage which then brings you to a cafe called Penelopes Cafe. We stopped off for ice cream & water for our puppy on a hot day. There is a large sitting area outside of the cafe overlooking the cottage & canal. An ideal place to relax & take in the scenery. We didn't have a meal, just ice cream in a tub & fresh water is provided for four legged hounds. Although the ice cream was quite expensive, £7.50 for two scoops of ice cream in two tubs, it was lovely ice cream & went down very well on a hot day. Hot & cold meals & snacks can be purchased in the cafe. Inside is nice & cosy with alot of unusual ornaments including a life size statue of a canal worker 100 years ago & a glass table with the legs being two legs of a horse & its nose. The staff are friendly & helpful & the restaurant & toilets are nice & clean. Highly recommend a visit for a nice relaxing walk & then refreshments afterwards.
What a lovely area to visit. My Fiancé and I walked for miles in the beautiful countryside, had great food at the cafe on site and to top off our day we were lucky enough to have a barge trip. For a truly relaxing and peaceful time I would highly recommend Goytre Wharf, it is very dog friendly place where there are bowls of water and even biscuits located around the cafe and the play area for kids although not huge can keep them entertained. Sorry, enjoying the day I didn't take many pictures.
